Feb. 4, 2009 ATTENTI0N: Please be aware, Assurity Life has been informed that some U.S. residents have recently received UPS or FedEx packages containing checks that appear to be from Assurity Life. The checks are not authentic. Enclosed with the fraudulent checks are directions telling the recipients to send an e-mail for additional information. The reply e-mail instructs the recipient to deposit the check in their bank account, then wire a processing fee to another named location. In another scam, checks are being issued, allegedly from our company, for several thousand dollars higher than the agreed-upon price for vehicles advertised for sale on the Internet, and the seller is asked to refund the amount of the overpayment. Do not attempt to deposit a check or wire any "fees." This is a scam. The senders are trying to steal money from you! If you have received a suspicious, UNEXPECTED delivery that contains a check appearing to be from Assurity Life, you should contact your state Attorney General's Consumer Fraud division or your local police department. If you have further questions, you may contact the Assurity Life law department at (800) 869-0355, Ext. 3730. |
